I don't know if the nicotine gum metabolizes the same way in your system as chewing tobacco or cigarettes. I don't know exactly what substance they test for in your blood to verify your non-smoker status. But like a previous poster said, if they find out that anything on your application is less than honest, they can refuse to pay out. So it's not worth the risk in my opinion. When my husband quit smoking, he had to be 100% nicotine free for 2 years to qualify for the lower life insurance prices, and they still dinged him for being overweight.

Life insurance and smoking/nicotine questions
by sinis inwell wouldn't you know it... policy is coming up for renewal and i used to be an occassional tobacco user.
i ended up quitting completely, never really smoked that much... i do prefer chewing the gum, though, as nicotine does offer some health benefits, as per recent studies.
anyways, i have stopped chewing the gum for a couple days now, as i have an appointment with the insurance guy at the end of next week.

I never felt "holy spirit". Maybe someday I'll have some grand revelation or feel like God is talking to me, but it hasn't happened yet.

Why the house to house preaching work never works
by RULES & REGULATIONS ini dislike when people come knocking on my door ''cold calling'' with their sales pitch.
do you need a new roof?
do you want to donate to a local school so they can pay for a trip?

In the 12 years I associated with the witnesses, there were zero new baptized witnesses with no prior family connections. In fact, in a hall of roughly 50 people, there were only two baptisms of people whose parents were not active witnesses in that time period. And those two people just escaped.

I love your point about the "happiness" witnesses talk about feeling is really just the cessation of guilt. For me, when I finally admitted that I just plain didn't want to be a witness anymore, it was like the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders.

Question... Does an elder lose his privileges if his 18 year old son stops attending the KH?
by Alfred ini'm starting to get a clearer picture of what's been happening with my nephew who has recently decided that he no longer wishes to be a part of "the lie"... it appears that my nephew may have been forced to move out by his elder father who was afraid of possibly losing his privileges by having a non-believing son under his roof.
that is the impression i'm getting by talking to my sister (his aunt who is not a jw).. while i try to figure this out... does anyone know if that is a valid possibility in general?
i'm referring to the possibility of an elder losing his privileges because his son no longer wishes to be a jw but still lives under the same roof... any insight by recently faded elders would be much appreciated.... thanks.

A MS in my former hall was removed when his teenage son started acting up. As far as I know, the kid hadn't really done anything awful when the dad was removed, nor had he even lived with his dad his whole life. The kid did end up in jail for stealing a car, but that was after dad was removed. All this happened several years ago, and dad has never been reinstated as an MS.
In contrast, the COBOE is married to a woman who has never gotten baptized, doesn't go out in service, rarely participates on the school, and does not comment. His kids were *not* exemplary - he had to pull his daughter out of public school to keep her away from the worldly boys, and her conduct with her JW boyfriend in front of people raised a lot of eyebrows.
It seems to me that it's all political - not theocratic.

Congress Investigating AARP's Tax Exempt Status. Why not the WTBTS?
by ABibleStudent inwhile researching tax exempt status of organizations in the usa for my next legislative letter writing campaign against the wtbts, i found this letter from charles w. boustany, jr, oversight subcommittee - chairman to douglas h. shulman, commissioner - internal revenue service, which was dated october 6, 2011. it just made me wonder if aarp's tax exempt status could be in jeopardy because of its business practises, why can't the wtbts' business practise of extracting donations from jws through building and selling khs be questioned?.
i'm trying to discover if now is a good time to raise eliminating tax exemptions for organizations that are dangerous cults, and to think of several different ideas in which to ask congressman and senators to investigate the wtbts in specific and cults in general.. what do you think?.
peace be with you and everyone, who you love,.

The thing is, it's really hard to single out one religious group to go after. The government doesn't want to be seen as persecuting a particular religion. The witnesses are a large enough and old enough group, and they have the financial resources to fight the government if they are singled out. There just isn't a lot of political will to end the special tax treatment of religious groups.
